Employee Highlight - Scott's Story
Scott, a Systems Engineer at Kotzur, has an invaluable role in making sure the flow of information between departments is seamless. With over 17 years of experience in the industry, Scott has spent the last decade at Kotzur improving systems and processes. His day-to-day tasks range from developing desktop programs, maintaining product catalogues, and supporting the IT department, to creating solutions for issues that arise in the manufacturing process. Scott supports many departments from design, workshop, stores, purchasing, scheduling/production and IT.
Scott enjoys working closely with his colleagues, finding solutions to streamline operations and improve efficiency. He takes pride in transforming everyday challenges into practical, effective solutions. "A lot of the system developments I do are the ideas of others. I enjoy helping people wherever I can," he says.
Whilst Scott originally began his career as a draftsman, it wasn’t long before his interest in systems and programming led him down a new path. When asked why he transitioned from drafting to systems, Scott explained, "I had an interest in programming from a young age, right from when we got our first computer (386, using QBasic). I didn’t like making the same mistake twice so I soon learnt that I could create programs in AutoCAD to prevent repeating errors, and that was my initial driver." Scott found satisfaction in automating tasks, enjoying how a single button could accomplish multiple jobs quickly and accurately. Over time, his career evolved and he commenced at Kotzur delving into the world of systems development, where he now finds fulfillment in seeing how his programs save others time and reduce errors, gaining their appreciation for the improvements he implements.
As Scott continues to help Kotzur innovate, he reflects on what makes the company special: "Kotzur cares about its employees and holds good values. I value working under Vic Stiller, General Manager, Toowoomba, and appreciate the support from all the others I work with."
Growing up on a dairy farm near Toowoomba, Scott developed a practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving from an early age. His upbringing taught him essential skills, which laid the foundation for his current work. Outside of Kotzur, Scott enjoys spending time with his family at the beach and learning how to grow things in his vegetable garden.
